Canadian Bobsleigh Athletes Set to Hit the Ice in Calgary for Historic Canadian Championships
CALGARY—For the first time in history, a women’s four-man and para-bobsleigh competition will be added to the Canadian Bobsleigh Championships with the fastest athletes on ice ready to battle for national titles in Calgary October 29-30.
With Canada’s two-time Olympic medallist, Kaillie Humphries, leading the charge with Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton to grow women’s bobsleigh, and to provide increased race opportunities for women to develop skills and race against the world’s best on the elite stage, it will be the first time the top women in Canada compete for a four-man national title. Canada fielded two sleds in the inaugural all women’s four-man exhibition, which was staged at last year’s World Championships.
This year’s Canadian Championships will also help showcase one of the latest winter sports – para-bobsleigh – to be provisionally added by the IPC to the Paralympic programme in 2022.
Para-bobsleigh will be held in conjuction with the traditional women’s and men’s two-man races are set for October 29, while the men’s and women’s four-man competitions will take centre stage, October 30. Races begin at 1 p.m. each day.
