Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton Slides into Eastern Canada in Search of Next Olympic Champion

—Canadian sliding sports look for aspiring athletes through aggressive recruitment drive in Quebec and Hamilton—

CALGARY—High-performance directors from Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton will be sliding into Eastern Canada to continue its search for the next generation of bobsleigh and skeleton athletes.

Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton, in conjunction with its provincial sports partners including the newly created Bobsleigh Skeleton Quebec, will host its first-ever recruitment camp in Sherbrooke, Que (December 7). The national body will also return to Hamilton (December 6), which has been a successful breeding ground for Canada’s sliding sports.

With a goal of expanding the depth of Canada’s bobsleigh and skeleton programs, the aggressive recruitment initiative targets Canadians with athletic ability to the sport. Athletes will be evaluated on a series of dry-land physical testing session including short sprints, squats and a series of weightlifting sessions.

Athletes with background in football, rugby, track, lacrosse, mountain sports, skiing, snowboarding, and mountain biking have traditionally developed into excellent sliding athletes.

Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton would like to invite all news and sports media to attend the recruitment camps in an effort to build a better understanding of the sport of bobsleigh and skeleton, while gaining a greater appreciation of the training and skill necessary for these sliding sport athletes.

All camps are open to public. Athletes demonstrating power, strength and speed will be invited to a national selection camp in Calgary.
