Team Rush 10th at Four-Man Bobsleigh World Cup in Austria

IGLS, Aut.—Lyndon Rush piloted the Canadian four-man bobsleigh to a 10th-place finish at a World Cup in Igls, Austria on Sunday.

Rush, of Humboldt, Sask., drove the Canada 1 crew – Ottawa’s Cody Sorensen, Calgary’s Lascelles Brown and Jesse Lumsden, of Burlington, Ont. – into the top-10 with a two-run time of one minute, 44.15 seconds down the Igls track.

The Germans continued their dominance grabbing two of the three spots on the men’s four-man podium.

Maximimillian Arndt, Marko Huebenbecker, Alexander Roediger and Martin Putze blasted the Germany 1 sled to a golden time of 1:43.33.  Thomas Florschuetz, Andreas Bredau, Kevin Kuske and Thomas Blaschek slid to the bronze in the Germany 2 sled with a time of 1:43.51.

Switzerland’s Beat Hefti completed a solid weekend by winning the silver with his crew of Alex Baumann, Thomas Lamparter and Juerg Egger. The Swiss sled clocked-in at 1:43.49.

The two other Canadian sleds did not qualify for the second run. Justin Kripps, of Summerland, B.C., James McNaughton, of Newmarket, Ont., Nick Carriere, of Rockland, Ont., and Sam Giguere, of Sherbrooke, Que., were 22nd in Canada 3. Calgary’s Chris Spring, Edmonton’s Adam Rosenke, Saskatoon’s Ben Coakwell and Edmonton’s Neville Wright finished 23rd in Canada 2.

Canada’s top bobsleigh and skeleton athletes now head to St. Moritz, Switzerland for the 2013 World Championships.
