CALGARY—A unique event will take place Thursday afternoon, as two of the best female curling teams in the world will be giving curling instruction to members of Canada’s bobsleigh and skeleton national teams at the Glencoe Club, home of the Canadian Curling Association’s National Training Centre.
Team Jennifer Jones (2014 Olympic gold-medallists) and Team Rachel Homan (two-time defending Scotties Tournament of Hearts champions), will be showing some of the world’s best bobsleigh and skeleton athletes a new way to slide on ice.
The Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton national teams will be back on the track at Canada Olympic Park this weekend for selection camps, and will be at the Glencoe for a team-building afternoon. Among the 28 sliders participating on Thursday will be Olympic squads helmed by two-time gold-medallist Kaillie Humphries, Justin Kripps and Chris Spring.
Both Team Jones and Team Homan will be competing in the 2015 World Financial Group Continental Cup of Curling, presented by SecurTek, Jan. 8-11, at the Markin MacPhail Centre at Canada Olympic Park. They're in town this week for the Grand Slam Autumn Gold Women's Classic, which begins Friday at the Calgary Curling Club.
In addition to photo/video opportunities, there will be time to interview the athletes and get their thoughts on their respective upcoming seasons. Also on hand will be 2006 Olympic bronze-medal curling skip Shannon Kleibrink, who is the vice-chair of special events for the 2015 WFG Continental Cup and the 2015 Tim Hortons Brier, presented by SecurTek, Feb. 28-March 8 at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
