PARK CITY, Utah.Canada’s Kaillie Humphries piloted her Canada 1 sled to its second consecutive silver medal at a women’s World Cup bobsleigh race in Park City, Utah on Friday.

Calgary’s Humphries teamed up with Shelley-Ann Brown, of Pickering, Ont., to clock a second-place time of 1:38.84 on the 2002 Olympic Track.

“It was a good close race today and I was really pleased that I had two consistent runs,” said Humphries, who also won a silver medal one week ago with Heather Moyse on her brakes in the first World Cup race at the new Whistler Sliding Centre. “I am still a very inexperienced pilot compared to the top girls so I continue to learn something new every day and it has been a great season for that.”

Humphries, who was a brakeman at the 2006 Olympic Winter Games, moved into the driving seat in 2007 where she captured the overall title on the Europa Cup circuit. In her rookie season driving on the World Cup in 2008, Humphries also teamed up with Brown to capture their first World Cup medal last year when they won a bronze in Lake Placid, N.Y. – the site of the 2009 World Championships at the end of February.

“The ultimate goal for any athlete is to peak at the big event whether it is the Olympics or World Championships,” said Humphries. “It is important to plan for that and I am happy the good results are coming now for me.”

Humphries was flanked on the podium by two German sleds. Cathleen Martini teamed up with Janine Tischer to post a winning time of 1:38.66 in the Germany 2 sled. The Germany 1 team of Sandra Kiriasis and Patricia Polifka settled for the bronze medal at 1:39.34.

With Canada’s Helen Upperton watching from home in Calgary while resting her sore ribs in time for the World Championships, Calgary’s Amanda Stepenko piloted the only other Canadian sled in Utah. Stepenko joined forces with Sabrina Notarangelo, of Calgary, to finish in 11th spot for the second straight week at 1:40.36.
