Jon Montgomery Leads Canadians in 13th at Skeleton World Cup

WINTERBERG, Ger.—Canada’s men’s skeleton andbobsleigh athletes finished well back of their podium pace, with Jon Montgomeryleading the way after posting a 13th-place result at a World Cup stop inWinterberg, Germany on Sunday. 

Montgomery,of Russell, Man., clocked a two-run time of 1:56.73 down the Winterberg track.The Olympic gold medallist’s teammate, John Fairbairn of Calgary, finished onhis heels in 14th spot at 1:56.95, while Toronto’s Mike Douglas wasdisqualified. 

Latvia’sMartins Dukurs continued to rip up the World Cup winning in Germany with a timeof 1:55.41. Russia’s Sergei Chudinov locked up second spot at 1:55.61, whileAlexander Tretiakov grabbed the bronze with a time of 1:55.71. 

TheCanadian men struggled in the four-man bobsleigh race which hit the track inthe afternoon. Lyndon Rush, of Humboldt, Sask., piloted the Canada 1 sled to18h spot at 1:52.91. Rush had Edmontonian’s David Bissett and Neville Wright inhis sled with Ottawa’s Cody Sorensen. 

ManuelMachata teamed up to Richard Adjei, Andreas Bredau and Florian Becke in theGermany 1 sled to win the gold medal with a time of 1:50.15.
