WHISTLER, B.C.—British Columbia’s own national team bobsleigh and skeleton athletes, Justin Kripps and Jane Channell, will lead their teammates and a lineup of dignitaries to the Whistler Sliding Centre to announce the sliding sport’s governing body’s commitment to bid on hosting a major international event in Whistler. The media conference will be held on Monday, March 23 at 10:30 a.m. PST.
The athletes will be joined by Mayor Nancy Wilhelm-Morden (Resort Municipality of Whistler), Roger Soane (President and CEO, Whistler Sport Legacies), and Barrett Fisher (President and CEO of Tourism Whistler).
The media conference will be held on the heels of Channell, of North Vancouver, and her teammates holding a post-season training camp in Whistler. A legacy baby from the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, Channell shocked the world to finish fourth in her first-ever World Championships earlier this month in Winterberg, Germany.
The timely event on Monday will also kick off a week of sliding for Kripps, of Summerland, B.C., and five other Canadian Olympic bobsleigh greats including Chris Spring, Helen Upperton, Lyndon Rush and Chris Lori who are taking part in the Whistler Sliding Centre’s “Meet an Olympian” week in conjunction with the track’s public bobsleigh program.
