Lyndon Rush Pilots Canada 1 Four-Man Bobsleigh into Top-10 at World Cup

ST. MORITZ, Sui.—Canada’s Lyndon Rush overcame achallenging start position to finish in ninth spot in a four-man World Cupbobsleigh race in St. Moritz, Switzerland on Sunday. 

The30-year-old Rush, of Humboldt, Sask., drew a number two start position, whichpresents a tough task to contend for the medals on a sunny day in St. Moritz asthe ice tends to get quicker for later start positions. Rush and his crew ofCalgary’s Justin Wilkinson, Ottawa’s Cody Sorenson and Edmonton’s NevilleWright teamed up to post a time of 2:10.14. 

“Consideringtheir start position, this was a very strong result for the guys,” said Tom DeLa Hunty. “St. Moritz is a tricky place when the sun is shining but the team isreally comfortable and it was quite a solid performance really.” 

Latvia’sEdgars Maskulans piloted his crew of Daumants Dneiskens, Uglis Zalims andInters Dambis to the gold medal with a time of 2:09.34. Switzerland’s BeatHefti claimed the silver medal at 2:09.36 with Roman Haschin, Thomas Lamparterand Manuel Luethi. The Germany 1 team of Manuel Machata, Andreas Bredau,Richard Adjei and Christian Poser slid in for the bronze medal at 2:09.50. 

The WorldCup of bobsleigh and skeleton now travels to Cesana, Italy for the final raceof the season next weekend before the 2011 World Championships.
