Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton to Unveil Olympic Bobsleigh Design by Local Artist

CALGARY—The world’s of sport and art will come together in support of Canada’s bobsleigh athletes heading to the 2014 Olympic Winter Games. Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton will team up with the Alberta College of Art and Design (ACAD) to unveil the artistic design that will be showcased on Canada’s bobsleighs in Sochi at Winsport Canada’s Ice House, January 27, 2014 at 11 a.m.

With the goal of engaging the community in the team’s journey to Sochi, Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton opened an art competition to all undergrad level illustration and design art students at ACAD to complete the sled designs. Students were asked to submit their designs which were evaluated by staff, board members and athletes. In addition to having their work thrust into the world’s spotlight while displayed on Canada’s men’s and women’s bobsleighs at the Games, the winning student also received $2500 tuition credit to cover one term.

Olympic silver medallist, Helen Upperton, will join the local artist to unveil the design with a provincial government, school and sport officials in the Ice House. Following the unveiling the lucky winner will also get a taste of the sport of bobsleigh with Upperton while blasting down the start track in the Ice House.
